Dunshanbe

This picture was taken by Magnus Brod, a postgraduate student from the Department of Sociology. It was taken at Dushanbe Train Station.

The Dushanbe train station is the starting point for at least 800.000 migrant workers that leave Tajikistan every year for faraway Russia. Once a convenient way to travel from the outmost part of the Soviet Union to Moscow, the train route has now become an arduous travel that crosses four borders passing through post-soviet Central Asia. A means by which their remittances travel back every week.
