This picture was taken by Michelle Marshalian, a postgraduate student in the Department of Public Affairs. It was taken on December 20 2010, on the road between Bahir Dar and the Blue Nile Falls in Ethiopia.
The photo depicts 3 women with their water tanks on their way to fetch water at the Blue Nile Falls, a source that will instantly give digestive problems to westerners and that is often used for bathing and washing upstream. To get there they walk for hours and across regions, barefoot, in the sweltering heat. I took this snap shot very quickly as we bumped along in a "luxurious" local minibus. While there are minibuses, country folk rarely use them.
