This picture was taken by Rasha Al-Dabagh, an undergraduate student in the Department of Economic History. It was taken in September 2010, in the town of Dordrecht, Holland.
The picture shows the various distances to multiple locations from a small town in Holland called Dordrecht. The theme 'crossing borders' is here used in the literal meaning of crossing countries' borders with the indicated kilometres to let you know how far you are from those foreign nations.
Naming the image 'A small world' is a pun on the large figures in the picture which do not signify anything anymore. In our modern world, we can cross distant borders in a matter of hours or even seconds when we use our mobiles to cross the borders of verbal connection.
The next image in this month's perspectives is Angel.|
