This photo was taken by Sarah Gledhill, an undergraduate student in the Law Department. The photo was taken at Cape Coast in Ghana around March 2009.
'This photo was taken just outside "the door of no return" at Cape Coast Castle, which marked the last few steps that thousands of slaves would take on African soil before embarking on the horrific middle passage. It has now been renamed "the door of return" and I found it interesting to see hectic and colourful daily life going on in this beautiful and thriving city in a way that gave no clue as to the devestating history of the place.'
