'One of the commonest scenes in The Gambia is to see groups of young men sitting and chatting in the street and other public areas, or in the courtyards of their family compounds, creating their own social spaces, colloquially referred to as the 'voos'.  These friends were pictured taking a break from the festivities during an inauguration of a village 'alkalo' (chief) in The Gambia's North Bank Region, January 2009.'
