This photo was taken by Professor Sylvia Chant, professor of Development Geography. The photo was taken in Gambia

'Most rural localities in The Gambia rely on boreholes for water. This well was about 30 metres deep. Without knowing it's a well, the object in the image is not immediately obvious. It could be the tip of a shell, for example.'
