'During a routine monitoring visit to a Malian NGO, AMAPEF, I visited a small hamlet outside the main village of Sebekoro. AMAPEF had been working in this area for three years now, providing adult literacy including civic and health education, and micro-credit through women's groups. The benefits were clear to see. Hamissa has her own stall selling condiments and rice; with the profits, she proudly tells me, she is able to send her daughter to school and ensure the wellbeing of her family.'
