'As I stumbled and tripped down the steep rocky slope to visit a permaculture farm, this woman and her daughter passed by with their heavy loads of wood. Almost completely cut off from the outside world, with little or no access to resources or fuel for heating, most poor families in far western Nepal burn wood using indoor stoves to cook and keep warm in temperatures which can fall as low as -20°C. However, smoke from indoor fires can cause respiratory problems and turns everything black.'
