This photo was submitted by Kersten Jauer who recently graduated from LSE with degrees in International Relations (BSc, First Class) and Development Management (MSc). The photo was taken just below the Teleti-Pass, Kyrgyzstan, at 2978m. Temperatures during clear summer nights can sink as low as five to zero degree Celsius.
Formerly part of the USSR, Kyrgyzstan is a Central Asian republic of impressive beauty. In this small country, spectacular mountains reach as high as 7500 meters and lush valleys seem almost untouched. Successful community based development projects have helped to limit the adverse effects of modern tourism, while benefiting many of the poorer Kyrgyz people. Yet as a destination, Kyrgyzstan is still vastly under-appreciated.
The photos shown here were taken by Kersten Jauer during a hiking trip in Summer 2006.
