'I stayed in Japan for five months last year, going to high school, and joined the Kendo club. The ritualistic process of the classes captivated me more than actually performing the sport, so I asked if I could take some photographs. There's true grace in seeing their movements, a mixture of controlled aggression and grace, along with billowing uniforms reminding me of samurai; I took this as they meditated, 'the calm before the storm'.'
