Events safety

Events must be planned and organised to ensure the safety of  students, staff and other users of School premises as well as persons attending the event.

Event organisers should always check with the Events Office to ensure that the venue is suitable and has sufficient capacity to accommodate the numbers expected to attend. There is guidance on their website on organising events, including using Event Steward to assist.

Events held outside on campus (with the exception of the Watkins Plaza and the forecourts of New Academic Building and 32 Lincoln's Inn Fields) require permission from Westminster Council.

Advice on security arrangements should be sought from the School Security team, particularly where external speakers or participants are invited or expected attend.

Event organisers should ensure that a risk assessment is completed. The model risk assessment (Word) can be used for this purpose, but must be adapted for the specific event. People responsible for taking actions must be named.

Where an event is organised jointly with an external organisation, the external organisation must be provided with essential health and safety information (PDF) regarding the School's fire safety and first-aid procedures.

Guidance on planning and running events can be found on HSE's website
