Terms of reference

To seek and consider research students' opinions on matters affecting their study at the School, for example by considering issues arising from reports of departmental student/staff liaison committees. Student representatives will submit any thematic issues arising from their department to the Secretary at least two weeks’ in advance of each meeting.

 
Membership structure 

  • One student elected by the students of each department or institute with research students
  • One sabbatical officer of the Students' Union 
  • Academic and professional advisor to PhD students and research staff, Teaching and Learning Centre 
  • Careers Advisor to PhD students, Careers Service 
  • Secretary (provided by the Research Degrees Unit)

The following will be in attendance:

  • One representative from the School’s main service departments (the Library, CLT, web services, ITS, Language Centre)

Mode of operation

  • To meet once per term
  • To consider School-wide issues arising from departmental staff/student liaison meetings, as raised by student representatives
  • To consider reports from other bodies in the School that relate to research students
