Chaplain and Senior Lecturer in Practice
Revd Canon Dr James Walters

Jim directs the work of the LSE Faith Centre and oversees its interfaith and religious literacy programmes. He is also a Senior Lecturer in Practice at the LSE Marshall Institute for Philanthropy and a Senior Fellow of the LSE Institute of Public Affairs. Jim is a regular contributor on the interface of theology, philosophy, and politics. In 2012 he published his theological engagement with the work of the French philosopher Jean Baudrillard and has more recently published on the theology of money.

As chaplain to the whole School, Jim is available to speak confidentially to any student or member of staff regardless of religious affiliation.

Angharad

Programmes Manager
Angharad Thain

Angharad works with the Chaplain to manage the LSE Faith centre programmes including interfaith activities, dialogues and public events. She read history at Cambridge University and holds an Mphil in Multi-disciplinary Gender Studies, focusing on women in leadership in third party politics in the UK. She is passionate about the role of faith in transforming conflict and exploring how we can disagree well. Her wider interests include feminism, disarmament, identity and narrative.

Professor Janet Hartley

Janet was the pro-director who first envisaged the LSE Faith Centre and she has been a constant advocate for its work. She chairs the advisory board of alumni who support Faith Centre activities with advice and fundraising.

Rishi Madlani

Rishi Madlani

Rishi Madlani is the Director of Sustainable Energy at RBS. He holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from LSE and was elected General Secretary of the Students’ Union in 2005. He currently serves on the Court of Governors at LSE, and as a Councillor in the London Borough of Camden, representing Bloomsbury Ward.

 

 

Ruhana Ali

Ruhana Ali

Ruhana Ali is the CEO of Nasiha Consulting ltd. She has previously worked as a Community Organiser with London Citizens and Academic Researcher for International Peace Studies, University of Notre Dame. She holds an undergraduate degree in Social Policy, Criminal Justice & Psychology from LSE, where she served as Education and Welfare Officer after graduating.

 

 

David Powell

David Powell is the chief euro-area economist at Bloomberg Intelligence. He holds a master’s degree from LSE and is the author of “The Trader's Guide to the Euro Area: Economic Indicators, the ECB and the Euro Crisis”, which was published by Wiley. He is also the vice chair of the LSE London Alumni Group. 

 

 

Adrian Cohen

Adrian Cohen is a partner in the finance practice of international law firm Clifford Chance LLP. In 2006 he helped to establish the London Jewish Forum, which he chairs, to engage with the Mayoralty of London. Adrian has first & second law degrees from the LSE & QMUL and taught commercial law at LSE for two years. 

 

 

Kevin Featherstone

Kebin Featherstoneis Eleftherios Venizelos Professor of Contemporary Greek Studies and Professor of European Politics at LSE. He is Head of the European Institute and Co-Chair of LSEE: Research on South-East Europe within the European Institute.

Fr Stephen Wang

Roman Catholic Chaplain

Fr. Stephen Wang

Fr Stephen is a priest in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Westminster. As Senior University Chaplain he coordinates the work of Catholic university chaplaincy around the Diocese. He has worked in parish ministry and as Academic Dean and Lecturer in Philosophy at Allen Hall Seminary. His PhD was in the area of happiness and human freedom. He has published books and articles about Christian belief, spirituality, vocation, Aquinas and Sartre.

Orthodox Chaplain
Fr. Alexander Fostiropoulos

Alexander is our Orthodox chaplain. He is a priest of the Deanery of Great Britain and Ireland, of the Archdiocese of Orthodox Parishes of Russian Tradition in Western Europe, within the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. He came to England in 1971 and trained as an architect in London. He was ordained priest by the late Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh in 1985, and has been at King's ever since. He is also a Chaplain to the LSE.

Jewish Chaplain
Rabbi Gavin Broder

Gavin (nicknamed Rav Gav by popular student demand!) can be found giving regular lunch and learn sessions at the centre and on campus. He is available for one-on-one chats, learning, welfare support, or to just grab a coffee, orange juice or pint! (Often providing snacks.) He represents Jewish causes within universities and is there for students of all backgrounds and affiliations. Rav Gav works with the Jewish Society and UJS helping to support and run student events.
