Waste and resources

Waste management

Objective: use the zero-waste 'rethink–reduce–reuse–recycle' criterion in waste and resource management.

Waste background

LSE is minimising its environmental impact by working with staff, students, visitors, contractors and relevant external stakeholders. We aim to use the zero-waste 'rethink–reduce–reuse–recycle' criterion in waste and resource management. Your participation is key! To this end LSE provides comprehensive and innovative facilities on the campus and in the halls of residence.

IT services in Library

At the end of July 2011 the School completed the upgrade of waste disposal facilities on campus with the roll out of Communal Recycling Stations. This followed very successful pilots in the Library, the Fourth Floor Restaurant, the New Academic Building (NAB) and Rosebery Hall. The Communal Recycling Station meansthat the LSE can send zero waste to landfill, segregate food waste for composting and achieve high recycling rates.

Each LSE managed hall offers students the opportunity to reuse unwanted items including furniture, stationery, books, clothes and shoes, bedding, pots and pans, non-perishable sealed or canned food, toiletries, cleaning products and bric-a-brac. Please ask your hall reception to find out where you can drop off your reusable items.

Zero Waste Tools

We are developing a range of tools to make your transition to zero waste easier. Please contact us if there is anything else you would like us to add.
