Objective
LSE sends zero-waste to landfill. We do this by emplying the "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover" waste hierarchy in our waste and resource management. Read our Waste and Recycling FAQs for more information.
Top tips for reducing waste and reusing items
1. Wherever possible, apply the following rule to waste: Reduce > Reuse> Recycle.
-
Reduce - do you really need to buy it in the first place?
-
Reuse - can the item be repaired or donated to charity instead of being disposed of?
-
Recycle - can it be processed into its raw material?
2. Consider buying second hand items.
3. Can you buy energy efficient, durable products that contain little or no hazardous materials and are easily recycled at the end of their life?
4. If you no longer need an item, does anyone in the school want the item or could it be stored for later use?
5. If equipment is broken, can it be repaired rather than replaced?
6. Put an end to junk mail! Contact the companies who send you or your office junk mail and ask them either to stop, or to send electronic copies only.
