LSE achieves environmental recertification

LSE has been re-certified to the ISO 14001 and 50001 standards for our Environmental and Energy Management Systems. These systems help continually improve the School’s environmental performance, and strategically manage our environmental impacts and opportunities.

Celebration of Sustainability 

In May, a great Celebration of Sustainability event took place, celebrating the contribution of staff and students to sustainability at LSE. Hosted by COO Andrew Young, the event included updates on LSE's latest sustainability projects and awards for Green Impact  and Student Switch Off. 

3rd Annual Sustainability Report Published

LSE achieves ISO 50001 certification

LSE is one of only a handful of universities to achieve the prestigious standard. This will help the School meet our carbon targets and reduce costs, by putting systems in place to continually improve our energy performance.  

Examples of this include designing the Centre Buildings redevelopment to stringent energy standards, enhancing heating and cooling control systems to boost energy-efficiency whilst improving comfort, and installing low-energy lighting and other equipment.

5th Bee hive in introduced

LSE has installed its 5th bee hive, joining the current two on Connaught House and 2 at Passfield Hall of Residence. Find out more about the bees on the SU Beekeeping Society blog.

2nd Annual Sustainability Report Published

Celebration of Sustainability 

A successful celebration of sustainability event took place in May, the event highlighted and celebrated all staff and students projects throughout the year, and awarded Green Impact and Student Switch Off winners. 

LSE launches a Bike User Group

As part of their Green Impact project, the LSE Health and Social Care department have launched a BUG with the aim of improving cycling facilities and safety on and around campus. Complete their transport survey and share your opinion on bike facilities on campus.

London Mayor's Green Procurement Code- Silver award

LSE was awarded silver based on the projects in place that ensure we buy more sustainably. 

A Fifth First for LSE in 2013 People and Planet Green League

LSE has been awarded a First in this year's People and Planet Green League, which ranks all UK universities on their environmental and ethical performance. The school came 22nd in this year's league - a rise of 20 places from its 2012 ranking of 42nd. 

ISO 14001 re-cerification

LSE's robust systems to manage and continually improve its environmental impacts have recieved recertification by the internationally recognised ISO14001 standard.

LSE tops Russell Group in 2013 CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme

The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme is a government scheme to get organisations to cut carbon through the creation of reporting and tax requirements for the highest emitters in the UK.

Environmental Excellence in Camden  Organisations

LSE was awarded for "Advancing renewable energy generation". The awards, held annually by the Camden Climate Change Alliance, helps Camden-based organisations improve their carbon footprints.

Staff and Student engagment award 2013 Green League

LSE was recognised for having the best student and staff sustainbility engagement of any UK university.

LSE at the 2012 Green Gown Awards

LSE achieved a 'Highly Commended' award in a ceremony held on the 5th November for the 'Sustainable Projects Fund'. The Fund awards money to student and staff led projects on campus with a 10p 'tax' on bottled water sold at LSE Catering outlets.
