The works were completed at the end of November 2013

Phase 2 - Old Building -  4 November 2013 to end of April 2014.

The works are being undertaken to provide new and refurbished good quality office facilities for the Department of Finance. The scheme will provide upgraded facilities for the Department of Finance academics and support staff, the Financial Markets Group (FMG) and the Systemic Risk Centre (SRC). FMG and SRC are research centres within the Department of Finance.

The works in both buildings are:

Connaught House

Complete refurbishment of 1st and 2nd floors of Connaught House to create new academic offices and PhD zones for the Department of Finance academics and support staff, as well as the Financial Markets Group (FMG) academics, support staff, and PhD students. A new conference facility and library will be created for FMG within their new space.

Working hours:

To minimise disruption to staff and students, all noisy works will be undertaken out of hours, before 9am and after 6pm with normal construction works continuing from 9am to 5pm weekdays.

The works to refurbish the reception area will be undertaken out of hours at weekends and evenings to maintain normal staff and student access to the building.

During early mornings before 8am and during evenings after 6pm the contractor will be allowed to move materials and waste in and out of the building via the reception, main staircase and via the lift. This will however be closely managed to minimise the impact on staff and student access during the out of hours periods. All of the existing fire escape routes within the building will be maintained throughout the durations of the works.

Old Building

Complete refurbishment of existing Department of Finance academic offices on the 2nd and 3rd floors, including the full demolition, strip out and remodelling of the 2nd and 3rd floor mezzanines for Department of Finance academics. In addition, the 3rd and 4th floor 'wings' of Old Building in the south east corner of the building will be refurbished and remodelled to provide a new research centre facility for the Systemic Risk Centre (SRC).

Working hours:

To minimise disruption to staff and students, all noisy works will be undertaken out of hours, before 9am and after 6pm with normal construction works continuing from 9am to 5 pm weekdays.

No access for labour or materials will be permitted for the contractor via the main entrance of Old Building. All contractor access will be via the staircase and lift adjacent to the Student Services entrance.

During early mornings before 8am and during evenings after 6pm the contractor will be allowed to move materials and waste in and out of the building via this staircase. The contractor will be working within the main staircase of Old Building at 2nd and 3rd floor levels during periods of the contract. These works will not however affect access via the staircase and a safe and clean route will be maintained at all times.

The existing link corridor between Old Building and Connaught House, and 2nd floor level will be taken out of use throughout the duration of the contract, except for emergency egress purposes. All of the existing fire escape routes within the building will be maintained throughout the durations of the works.
