Things we have done so far:-
-
We took out all the usable equipment from St Phillips to put in to stock for reuse and we reuse existing equipment as and when possible.
-
The Maintenance team recently replaced all the house lights in Peacock Theatre from 500 watt Halogen to 65 watt LED and increased light levels.
-
In NAB replaced all taps with sensor taps which will use less water and more hygienic.
-
In Columbia House we are trialling a new hand dryer which is only 900 watts compared to 2,500 watts. If successful these will be changed to our standard specification and replaced as and when they fail or should funding become available.
-
We use timber from legal, well managed and sustainable forests.
-
We replace all high powered faulty halogen lights (500 Watts+) with environmentally friendly metal halide lamps.
-
We purchase and use energy saving light bulbs, energy saving candle bulbs, compact fluorescents and LED lights and replace existing ones accordingly when required.
-
We have installed movement sensors generally in Old Building to control the lights outside working hours – only switches the lights on when the space is in use.
-
Building Energy Management System – added sensors to improve better temperature reading and control.
-
When replacing Air Condition units we choose new ones that are more efficient and less wasteful.
-
We recycle all used paper and cardboard
-
We have installed 145 water-free urinals (not including the NAB), reducing dramatically our water consumption as they use no water at all. An average urinal consumes 3 cubic meters of water per week.
-
Push button taps have been fitted in all student areas where practical (approximately 80% of all taps are now push button taps). Sensor taps have been installed in the Library.
Things we will try and do in the near future:-
-
Old Building main staircase in the process of replacing all fitting with energy efficient LEDS as existing fittings have reached the end of life.
-
Furniture store statistics.
-
SDR refurbishment project, reupholstered and polished existing furniture instead of buying new which is what was the original plan.
-
Lakatos and Cowdray replacing fittings in common areas with LED.
