Beijing - 25 & 26 March 2010
March 2010 was a momentous month for LSE in China. After many months of planning the 5th LSE Asia Forum was held in Beijing on 26 March.
The forum was a huge success, with over 500 delegates, many LSE alumni, attending from 30 countries. The forum was headlined with a speech from LSE's most senior alumnus in China, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi. Minister Yang studied at LSE in 1975 and he was made an Honorary Fellow of LSE at the forum. The crowd was also treated to a visit and speech from His Royal Highness The Duke of York, UK Special Representative for International Trade and Investment. A range of senior Chinese government officials attended and spoke at the event, including Liu Mingkang, Chairman of China Banking Regulatory Commission; Liu He, Vice Minister, Office of the Leading Group on Financial and Economic Affairs; Zhu Min, Deputy Governor of People's Bank of China, and Hu Xiaolin, Deputy Governor of People's Bank of China. Over 65 journalists attended the event from 54 press agencies.
The 5th LSE Asia Forum was preceded by LSE's first ever overseas graduation on the afternoon of 25 March 2010 in Beijing, as well as a reception for LSE alumni and a gala dinner, on the evening of 25 March.
