Web Access to Email with Office 365

Web Access to email allows you to access your LSE mailbox from any computer connected to the Internet or using a web-enabled mobile device.

How to log on

To log on to your Office 365 inbox:

  1. Open your web browser and go to http://mail.lse.ac.uk
  2. In the User name box, enter your LSE network username. In the Password box, enter your LSE network password. Click on the Sign In button to display the Outlook mailbox viewer.

Mailbox viewer

The mailbox viewer is the main window for Outlook 365. The areas of this screen are:

Navigation pane

The navigation pane which runs down the left hand side of the viewer is used to access your Mailbox Folders. Please be aware that Public Folders are being decommissioned| so may not be visible.

Contents pane

The centre pane shows you the contents of the folder you have selected in the navigation pane. In the above screenshot, Inbox is selected in the Navigation pane and its contents are visible in the centre/Contents pane.

Preview pane

The right hand pane shows you the content of an email you have selected in the Contents pane.

Toolbars

To create a new mail, click on new mail which can be found at the top of the Navigation pane.

 

To work with an email selected in the Cntent pane, you can use the options available at the top of the Preview pane.

You also have additional tools to work with such as delete or print. To access these, click on the three dots at the top of the preview pane.

Online help

Online help can be obtained at any time by clicking on the ? button at the top of the preview pane.

Accessing other mailboxes

To access other mailboxes, click on the down arrow next to your name at the top of the preview pane, then click Open another mailbox...

Logging off

To log off, click on the down arrow next to your name at the top of the preview pane, then click SIgn out at the bottom of the menu that appears.

Note: When using Web Access to email on a campus PC, there is no log out option to click. This is a feature by Microsoft and it is meant to make using Web Access to email easier. Closing the brownser instead will log out you and send your session. If using Web Access to email on non-campus machine, you will be able to log out in the usual way.

Out of office assistant

To use the out-of-office assistant, click on the gear wheel button next to your name at the top of the preview pane and click Set automatic replies.
