This document describes how to configure an iPhone to synchronise email and/or contacts and calendar information from your LSE Microsoft Exchange email account.
By connecting to the Exchange server, you give LSE access to control certain features of your phone. This includes being able to remotely wipe the device and monitor failed password attempts to unlock the phone.
Please note that this is a standard feature of the Exchange service, has always been in place and is true for every mobile phone. Although Android phones warn users of this security setting, other mobile devices don't.
You should be aware that LSE IMT has no desire or interest in accessing any of these features, and will not do so without the express request of the user (e.g. if your mobile phone is lost or stolen, we can wipe the phone's contents for you).
We cannot remove this functionality from the Exchange service (Microsoft would have to do that); it is a standard feature.

You will need an iPhone with a connection to your mobile network providers data connection, or a wireless internet connection. Please check with your mobile provider regarding data usage charges that may be incurred in the UK or abroad if you intend to use the mobile providers data connection.
To configure your iPhone:
1. From the Home screen click Settings
2. Click Mail, Contacts, Calenders
3. Click Add an account
4. Click Microsoft Exchange
Enter your following details
Email address: firstname.lastname@example.org
Password: <your lse network password>
5. Click Accept to verify the certificate from "lse.ac.uk"
6. Enter the following server details: exchange.lse.ac.uk
7. Click Next
8. Click the options you would like to synchronise
9. Click Done
Once you have added your email account, return to the Home screen and select Mail to synchronise and view your email account.
