Photography Unit

The Photography Unit supplies images for the External Relations Division, LSE websites, prospectuses, magazines, events and staff portraits. The Press Office and Design Unit have access to more than 34,000 LSE images that document all aspects of LSE life, over 6,000 of which are in the LSE Image Bank, accessible by the whole School.

LSE in Pictures is a selection of images taken by School photographer Nigel Stead.

LSE Image Bank

The LSE Image Bank contains over 6,000 pictures from around the School, and can only be accessed by LSE staff and students. They range from LSE buildings and landmarks, to students, staff and LSE's highly popular public events programme. The advantage of using the LSE Image Bank is that there are no copyright or royalty issues.

Nigel works mainly for  ERD| and may also be booked through other LSE departments if available. Bookings must be made at least two weeks in advance. To book Nigel please email him at|. If Nigel is not available he will recommend fully qualified and vetted freelance photographers.

Portrait sessions

Portrait sessions for all LSE staff and academics are advertised in Staff News and on the intranet homepage|. There are usually three or four portrait sessions per term. All photos are provided digitally on a CD, or can be emailed if only one or two images are required. Hard copy prints will not be provided. Pictures will be sent after post production, which can be up to two weeks after the shoot. See charges below.

Internal charges


  • Events or seminars cost £75 for the first hour
  • Portraits cost £15 per head.
  • Half day bookings cost £130
  • Full day bookings cost £195
  • Group shots cost £35

All charges are invoiced internally through your departmental budget code.

Buying pictures

High resolution digital files from the Image Bank and LSE in Pictures can be purchased through the Photography Unit. Contact Nigel| or Lynne| for further details.
