Due to the generous philanthropic support of alumni and friends, each year LSE offers around £2.5 million to fund scholarships for students from around the world at the School. These donors are opening doors for the many talented and deserving students who may not otherwise benefit from the opportunity of studying at LSE; they are making an investment in another person's future.
A relationship, not just a gift
LSE Advancement coordinates the stewardship of donors who support philanthropically funded scholarships. Over the years we have witnessed, and helped to facilitate, flourishing relationships between donors and their scholars through the coordination of events, newsletters and other communications, illustrating the genuine gratitude of each and every scholar. We ensure that each donor feels valued, because they are.
Our ambassadors, the students
The students who receive philanthropically funded scholarships are our ambassadors and they play a vital role in demonstrating the true value that the support of scholarships provides.
At the start of each academic year, students write a letter of thanks to their donor, presenting an ideal opportunity to tell their donors a bit about themselves. In addition, all scholarship recipients are invited to attend the annual Donors and Scholars Reception at the end of Lent term, offering a relaxed setting for all donors and funded scholars to socialise. Here, some of our best and brightest students share their experiences and speak about the impact that their scholarship has had on their life.
Many scholars are welcomed at specialist events and meetings by their donors, as well as being offered useful career advice and other professional experience. A scholarship really can change lives.
