Employees Provident Fund

Please describe your career path to date.

I started off my career with an internship in the Investments division at Khazanah Nasional Bhd during the first summer of my 2-years MSc programme. 6-months before graduation, I was offered a place in the Investments division at the Employees Provident Fund.

Has your career path developed as you planned?

My career path has developed as I have planned. I have always been interested in investment management, mainly in asset classes such as equities and debt. Two years into my current role, the interests remain.

Tell us about your current job

I am involved in the valuation of companies, mergers and acquisitions, rights issue of shares, bonus issue of shares, debt and equity financing, disposal and injection of assets, corporate exercises by our subsidiaries.

Why did you choose this job?

It is a great organisation to start off at as it is one of the largest pension funds in the world and I could play my part in interesting deals. Moreover, I was curious as to what the Employees Provident Fund does.

What do you like most about your job? Is there anything that you dislike?

The work life balance, training provided to staff, reputation of the organisation, colleagues, working environment, exposure to a range of asset classes, accessibility, travels, high level management meetings on deals and syndications.

Thinking back, why did you choose your degree subject and why did you choose LSE?

The degree subject provides a wide understanding of subjects such as quants, economics, management, business and finance. The reasons I chose LSE are: its reputation - it opens up to a wide range of career opportunities, networking and the programmes offered.

How has your time at LSE helped you so far in your career?

I managed to brush up my networking skills, gain insight of the relevant skills and qualities that employers are seeking for and of course met a number of friends from various faculties at LSE.

What advice would you give to prospective or current LSE students?

Know your goals and then work towards them. Leverage the alumni network LSE has. Enjoy an optimum work-life balance as a student while you can at LSE as you will definitely miss life as a student once you enter the workforce!
