Graduate careers in the Civil Service
There are several possible routes into the Civil Service:
Apply to current vacancies
All civil service vacancies are advertised on the Civil Service jobs page and departments can advertise posts in local newspapers, job centres and their own websites.
Civil Service Fast Stream
The Civil Service Fast Stream is the main graduate recruitment programme, offering accelerated training and development for graduates across several departments and aims to develop the organisation's future senior managers. See Civil Service Fast Stream.
Graduate schemes
Several departments run separate graduate recruitment schemes for new or experienced graduates, separately to the Civil Service Fast Stream.
Nationality requirements
Most Civil Service positions require you to be a UK national or have dual nationality with one part being British. However, approximately 75% of Civil Service posts are open to Commonwealth citizens and nationals of any of the member states of the European Economic Area (EEA).
