LSE - International Trade Policy Unit (ITPU) Seminars 2015

The International Trade Policy Unit (ITPU) in the International Relations Department of the LSE was established to provide a link between academic research on trade-related topics and the wider debate on trade policy and to promote an informed debate on international trade issues.

As one of its activities the ITPU organises occasional talks and short conferences on trade topics.


Negotiating Services and Investment in the Asian Pacific Region

Dr. Zhang is currently a Trade Negotiator and Policy Adviser for the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Wellington and Wairarapa. She has previously co-authored policy reports for the European Parliament on the EU’s trade relations and FTA negotiation recommendations for India. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Auckland and obtained a Masters and PhD at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her research interests include Chinese economic diplomacy, the relationship between China’s foreign policy process and international economic institutions as well as the decision-making process for multilateral negotiations and international trade.


Negotiating transparency in investment: the case of UNCITRAL

Julia Salasky was a Legal Officer at the International Trade Law Division of the United Nations (UNCITRAL Secretariat) focusing on issues related to international dispute resolution. Julia was previously an associate at Linklaters LLP, a commercial litigation and international arbitration group. Lately, she is working with Client Earth to focus on making trade agreements environmentally sound. She obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and Oxford University and her Masters degree from the London School of Economics.

Andreas Maurer is the Chair for Political Science and European Integration at the University of Innsbruck (Austria).  His previous work includes studies for the European Parliament and the European Commission as well as research work on EU integration.

Dirk De Bievre is an Associate Professor in International Politics at the University of Antwerp. Currently, he is on a sabbatical leave till September 2015. During this period, he is a Visiting Fellow at the Government Department of the London School of Economics and Political Science as well as at the World Trade Institute in Bern. His work focuses primarily on topics relating to European Trade Policy, the World Trade Organization and Interest groups.


 

The European Parliament and the EU Canada – Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement

Alessia Mosca is a member of the Partito Democratico who is currently a Member of the European Parliament (Socialist and Democrat group). She has a Philosophy degree from the Catholic University of Milan, a Master’s degree in Diplomacy from ISPI (Istituto per gli studi di Politica Internazionale), a diploma in International Relations from John Hopkins University and a PhD in Political Science from the University of Florence. Alessia has written various books about Europe and has also been a number of several international forums including Young Global Leaders and Rising Talents.
