Staff Research Seminar

The Staff Research Seminars are held on Thursdays from 11.00-12.30 in E509.

The seminar series seeks to encourage greater awareness of the research and writing done within the department, as well as to pool together our knowledge, and call upon the varied experience of its members to discuss key issues and solve problems.

The presentations may take different forms, ranging from informal papers outlining current or completed research projects, to general discussions of specific issues or of particularly important or influential works on International History, and might be used to test ideas and material that people are working on.

Although it is primarily aimed at academic staff - presentations will be by members of staff - registered research students and graduate teaching assistants/guest teachers are welcome to attend and will be included in the information circulars.

The seminar complements the more formal, subject- and period-specific research groups that staff and students participate in within the Department (such as the evening Research Seminars) and others held at the Institute of Historical Research|.

Research Councils and the next REF

The seminar looked at the growing importance of impact for the Research Councils and the next REF; the different meanings of impact; the experience of the department in the recent REF in formulating its impact case studies; and the potential for future impact case studies to arise from our current research plans.
