Undergraduate Students

This is a careers seminar aimed at first and second-year undergraduate International History students to identify ways to maximise your summer. Find out where to look for internships and how to make successful applications.In an increasingly competitive graduate job market, one way to differentiate yourself is through a spring week or internship. Many graduate recruiters, across sectors including banking, financial services and consulting, use spring weeks and internships as a way of identifying future talent, so they really can help you get you on the career ladder. Spring weeks and internships are also a great way to find out if you are suited to a particular career area.Come along to find out where to look for opportunities and get top tips on making successful applications.

  • Undergraduate and Alumni Networking Lunch
Are you a current undergraduate student looking to find out more about your career options following graduation? Are you interested in understanding more about careers outside of the traditional banking and consulting sectors? If yes then come and meet with LSE alumni from a range of seniority levels and sectors over an informal lunch.

Thursday, 20 October 2016, 12:00 - 14:00, The Venue, Saw Swee Hock Student Centre

This is an exciting opportunity for current undergraduate students to meet with alumni from a variety of industries outside of the traditional banking and consulting sectors.

We have a number of LSE alumni attending who have had experience working across (and not limited to) PR, media and communications, digital, public sector, risk consulting and healthcare. The networking lunch will be held in the Venue where undergraduate students across the School can gain insights into what it is like to work in a particular field, what the best ways of finding a job in that field are and what a longer term career might look like. Hopefully see you there!

This is designed specifically to meet the needs of students who are unclear o fwhat they want to do. We’ll be offering a comprehensive look at a range of careers issues from knowing yourself to career identification and effective research.

LSE International History students go on to range of interesting careers. At this event, recent alumni from a range of companies and sectors will share their career insights - plus there are plenty of opportunities for networking over food and drink!

The Department of International History and LSE Careers Service organised the last Careers panel event for students on Tuesday 29th January 2014.

As before, the aim of this event was to give students insight and advice on getting into careers in sectors that typically attract History graduates. Naturally, there were different speakers this time. They talked about their careers to date, the roles they were currently in, plus tips for career success. There was a question and answer session after the panellists spoke.

Journalism: Rosamund Urwin

Rosamund began writing for London's Evening Standard in 2007, as a graduate trainee on the business pages. She continues to write on business but now has a regular column in the paper and also contributes features on a range of subjects. In 2009 she was selected as one of Red magazine's '20 Under 30' women to watch. She is an LSE alumnus with a Masters in Population and Development.
 

davidrussell

Charity and Development: David Russell

David is currently the director of the Survivors Fund – SURF – a charity that works to support survivors of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. He has worked in the communications sector and in charity consultancy, including setting up his own agency, The Social Enterprise. He has held a Reynolds Fellowship in Social Entrepreneurship at New York University and is currently a Fellow of the Clore Social Leadership programme.
 

Sophie-Marment

Government and Civil Service: Sophie Marment

Sophie graduated with a BA Honours in History from LSE in 2010. She subsequently gained a place on the Civil Service fast-track programme and now works at the UK government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

Law: Hayley Ives

Hayley is a Graduate Officer at Clyde and Co LLP, and will be accompanied by a current trainee who can share experiences and advice with students.
