The 2015/16 PfAL scholarship programme is highly competitive and provides funding to enable bright young Africans to undertake a full-time Masters degree programme here at the School. Generously supported by Firoz and Najma Lalji, full scholarships were awarded dependent upon an assessment of financial need. A full scholarship covers tuition fees and living costs for the academic year. Candidates for PfAL funding demonstrated academic ability, leadership potential, determination to succeed and a desire to effect change. Additionally, preference was given to candidates who had not previously studied outside of Africa.
Successful candidates benefit from:
PfAL scholars study one of the taught masters programmes offered by the Department of International Development. Each programme provides an academically rigorous foundation in a specific area within the international development field. In addition, students are able to select a number of option courses from within the Department or from other departments & institutes across the School dependent on their individual area of interest.
For the 2015/16 academic year, a total of 23 bright and high-potential scholars, hailing from Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Namibia, Liberia, South Sudan and Sudan were selected for the scholarships. They study together at the School with students from all over the world, providing a perfect platform for cross-cultural learning, networking and friendship. They also participate in PfAL@LSE, which includes circa 50 LSE African scholars.
