Development in China: A Personal View
Since rural economic reform in 1978, China has made huge progress in its development agenda. Its rise has become a recurring hot topic in global development discourse. Developed countries, curious about China’s success under different regimes of politics and governance, are hoping to imitate its development path.
Rather than lending an academic perspective on China’s development trajectory, Dr Tang Lixia will share a personal story of how Chinese life has changed over recent decades.
About the speaker:
Born to a poor family in a fishing village in eastern China, Dr Tang Lixia is now Associate Professor in China Agricultural University, Beijing, and a visiting research fellow in LSE. Dr Tang was born in 1979, so her life has coincided with the reform period.
She has lived and worked in both rural and urban China, and has travelled extensively throughout Thailand, India, Western Europe and Africa, which has inspired her work on development. She is keen to share her observations with staff and students in the Department.
All MSc and PhD students and faculty are welcome.
