Seminar by Professor Noam Chomsky

To mark International Human Rights day on 10 December 2002, the Centre for the Study of Human Rights hosted a small seminar, lead by Professor Noam Chomsky (of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology).

The seminar focussed initially on the nature of the US counter terrorism war, moving on to consider the role of intellectuals in the UK, the US and elsewhere in seeking to resist the 'war' and its war aims (covert and overt). The seminar then reflected on the potentiality of human rights talk and human rights law as a means of resisting the counter-terrorist state.

By necessity, invitations to the seminar were limited to MSc Human Rights students and a small group of LSE academics with particularly close links to the Centre.
