About me

Dr Joan Costa-Font is an Associate Professor (‘Reader’) at the LSE. Joan is an economist affiliated with CESIfo in Munich and IZA Bonn.  He has been Harkness Fellow at Harvard University and Visiting Fellow at UCL, Boston College, and Oxford University. Before joining LSE in 2007, he taught economics at the University of Barcelona, and has been visiting professor at Universita Cattolica, and Paris Dauphine University. At LSE, he was promoted to Senior Lecturer (2010) and then Reader (2012).

Current research

The core of Dr Costa-Font's research examines (i) the design of health and long-term care programs, and (ii) the origins and consequences of health and economic disadvantage. However, his broader interests refer to empirical or theoretical debates in political economy and behavioral economics. More specifically, he is interested in contributing to theoretical and empirical discussions on how best to design social protection programs, and the logic behind the social formation of preferences. A policy friendly version of some of his research is available at the LSE blogs and Vox.eu.
