A monitoring and evaluation (M&E) system will be a critical part of Canada’s upcoming first National Adaptation Strategy. This paper provides guidance on key elements of a robust M&E system and identifies nine best practices for Canada to guide its development. The paper is part of a series of knowledge products to guide an ambitious adaptation policy in Canada. It’s recommendations are equally relevant to other countries that seek to develop systems to track the implementation of their national adaptation plans.
