I graduated from Department of Sociology in Istanbul Bilgi University with a minor degree in International Relations in 2007. Between 2007 and 2009 I conducted my Master’s Degree in Comparative Studies of History and Society at Koc University, where I wrote my Master’s Thesis titled as “Discrimination and silence: The case of minority foundations in Turkey (1974)”. I have begun my doctoral study at London School of Economics in 2010.

Construction and competition of collective identity and memory: The case of Dersim 1938
In my PhD dissertation I explore the construction and contestation of collective memory and identity in social movements. The selected case is Dersim, and the construction of and competition over its history and identity by various movements (e.g. Kurdish, Kirmanc, Armenian) in Turkey and the Diaspora.

Research interests
My broad research interests are in the areas of nationalism, citizenship, minorities, social movements and identity politics. My research generally implements these theories with the case of Turkish politics, history, and society.
