Thesis
The Gendered Consequences of Knowledge Economies: Why Some Jobs Are More Gender Equal Than Others
Øyvind’s research is in the comparative political economy of inequality in advanced democracies, with a particular focus on gender inequality. In his PhD thesis he is investigating why some occupations and professions are more gender equal than others in terms of workforce composition, wages, and access to leadership positions. He is especially interested in how skill-biased technological change combines with women’s outnumbering of men in higher education to produce workplace practices matching the demands of both women and men.
Øyvind also has research interests in the spread of work-family policies, the development of gender norms, the political economy of crime and punishment, and democratization in the late 19th and early 20th century.
