Thesis
Neighbours, Citizens and Partisans in Democratic and Authoritarian Enclaves: Party Politics and Institutional Schemes of Citizen Participation in Mexico City and State of Mexico
The main questions that guide this research are:
-
How have political parties influenced the institutional development of local schemes of citizen participation in Mexico City and State of Mexico?
-
To what extent have political parties advanced or obstructed the democratic consolidation and deepening of these local institutions?
The purpose of this research is to contribute to the study of institutional development and democratic consolidation and deepening in the so-called 'transition' and 'post-transition' regimes. More specifically, to analyse the relationship and dilemmas of representation between party politics and local democratic institutions. The research focuses on the case study of Mexico, carrying out an 'extended case study' and 'within-case-analysis' of two local entities: Mexico City and State of Mexico.
