Biography
Joachim studied political science at the Free University Berlin (Germany), the Universities of Cape Town and Stellenbosch (South Africa), and the LSE. Prior to joining the Government Department at LSE, Joachim worked for five years as a policy analyst at the Institute for Democracy in South Africa (Idasa), focusing mainly on public finance issues in South Africa and several other African countries. He has also worked as a consultant on public finance and governance issues for the World Bank, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and a range of other organisations. This included assignments in various Eastern European, Asian, and African countries.
