Kerwin Datu

PhD candidate in Economic Geography

Kerwin Datu originally trained in architecture, a field in which he worked in Sydney, Paris and London over nine years, before completing an MSc in Urbanisation and Development in this department, during which he researched the housing and relocation of informal settlers in Manila, Philippines. The MSc inspired the creation of The Global Urbanist, an online magazine analysing urban development issues worldwide, of which he is the editor-in-chief.

His current research is on the position of Lagos, Nigeria and other West African cities within the global economy, seen through the lens of the global city network, consisting of interviews with several West African businesses regarding the geography of their activities within the region and around the world.
