Workshop 1: 14 April 2011
This workshop as the first in a series of three events sponsored by HEIF4 discussing the structural factors that shape the private rented sector (PRS) in the UK. The goal of the afternoon as to talk about the most important factors limiting development of the sector in the UK not just in terms of scale but also in respect to quality of management, terms and conditions, etc. The outcomes of the day’s discussion informed the second workshop, at which international practitioners discussed what the UK can learn from private renting policy and practice in other countries. This first event brought together academics, practitioners of the PRS field and policy makers and included speaker presentations from the following individuals:

Workshop 2: 2 June 2011
Recognizing the increasing importance of the PRS in the British housing system and the need to understand its specificities as compared to other contexts, this event focused on what the UK can learn from private renting policy and practice in other countries. It brought together a select group of experts and practitioners from the wider international realm, including academics, government officials and representatives of the private sector such as mortgage lenders, investors and landlords.
