22 March 2011

LSE London hosted this third HEIF 4 seminar on 'Immigration and the London Economy' on Tuesday March 22nd from 3pm to 6.30 pm. The event concentrated mainly on the changes and impact of immigration controls on the London economy.

The afternoon was chaired by Professor Ian Gordon from LSE's Geography Department and member of LSE London. Topics covered ranged from issues of immigration restriction on Tier 1 and Tier 2 visas and the latest London statistics focusing on the impact of the recession on migration, to the private sector's concerns and responses to migration in the current financial environment and the most recent development and changes to migration policy in the context of the new Coalition government. These various angles were then brought together and debated in a final roundtable discussion chaired by Sarah Mulley from the Institute for Public Policy Research.
