Building on several publications produced by LSE London over the last year, this seminar discussed the increasing awareness of the impacts of international in-migration within the Greater London area.
Although immigration into the capital has increased exponentially over the last decade, debate and awareness remains relatively limited and constrained by other factors such as perceptions of migration and race, among other issues.
As migration and the policy surrounding it play increasingly prominent roles in public discourse and policy, this seminar offered a timely assessment of the cumulative effects within the London area. Speakers at the seminar included:
-
David Metcalf, Chair, Migration Advisory Committee
-
John Ross, Director of Economic and Business Policy, Greater London Authority
-
Danny Sriskandarajah, Institute of Public Policy Research
-
Colin Stanbridge, London Chamber of Commerce & Industry
-
Ian Gordon and Christine Whitehead, LSE
Questions and debate followed each speaker, and the seminar finished with a drinks reception.
LSE London's report for the City of London, The Impact of Recent Immigration on the London Economy, was also made available for attendees.
