Roundtable with NYC comptroller John Liu
LSE London and LSE Cities| hosted a very special roundtable discussion with New York City Comptroller John Liu on the eve of October the 6th. Following an introductory presentation by Mr. Liu, the invitation-only event, which brought together academics, politicians, developers, experts and representatives from New York and London, centred around themes including: tax competition, transportation, investment and TIF's, migration, and value for money. LSE London's Director, Tony Travers, gave some closing remarks.

London-New York Dialogue on Business Improvement Districts
Supported by HEIF 4, LSE London and the New West End Company,| the business improvement district for the West End, co-organised an international dialogue between policy-makers and academics from New York City and London. Held every few years, this platform of exchange serves an opportunity for Business Improvement District (BID) experts from both cities to draw lessons from each others' differing experiences and environments.
The discussion asked how BID's programmes and agendas were impacted by renewal processes in London; by specific legislative, policy and governmental frameworks; and by owners' versus tenants' levy. The dialogue concluded with a presentation by destination measurement experts Springboard entitled, "How do BIDs effectively measure their investment to both occupiers and property owners in the UK". This was followed by a tour of the New West End Company neighbourhood.
