GI faculty provide extensive support for you with your studies, but we also encourage student-led learning and self-development.
Study Groups
Study groups can be a challenging and rewarding addition to self-study, helping you to develop critical thinking and providing a forum for collectively exploring issues in more depth. This document provides some guidelines about forming a study group.
Essay Writing Workshop
After getting feedback from their first formative essays, the 2014/15 cohort set up and ran their own essay writing workshop to share ideas and tips. Many of the students found it very useful to share their experiences and felt that the workshop helped them to improve their future work. They kindly donated their notes to the GI and asked us to encourage future years to run workshops too.
GI Handbook and Moodle Resources
Answers to many of the questions you have can be found in GI Handbook and on Moodle. In particular, you should pay close attention to the documents that give advice on critical writing, how to avoid plagiarism, etc. as these will help improve your work and maximise your grades.
Dissertation Library
In the GI, we have a library of past dissertations that received merits or above. We recommend that you make use of this invaluable resource when you come to thinking about your own dissertation topic and methodology.
