Dr Juanita Gonzalez-Uribe wins the Coller PhD prize|
The coveted Coller PhD prize for 2013 has been awarded to Dr Juanita Gonzalez-Uribe|, Assistant Professor in the Department of Finance and FMG staff member. Juanita's article 'Venture Capital and the Diffusion of Knowledge' was selected ahead of PhD submissions from around the world.

Professor David Webb features at AXA research fund anniversary event|
The AXA Research Fund|, supporter of the FMG's Financial Regulation and Risk Management Research Programme|, celebrated its 6th birthday with a special event at its headquarters in Paris. Professor David Webb| (Department of Finance) joined AXA’s Eric Chaney to discuss ‘Economic crises: cyclic inevitabilities?’. The wide-ranging evening featured representatives from the many research fields supported by the Fund.

Special event: Athanasios Orphanides on Cyprus and the euro|
On Wednesday 15 May Athanasios Orphanides (former Governor of the Central Bank of Cyprus) spoke at a special seminar in the Financial Markets Group entitled "The politics of the euro area crisis and Cyprus". Click here| for presentation slides.

4nations competition- UK victory!|
We are delighted to announce that the UK team, consisting of Stavros Panageas| (Department of Finance/FMG, LSE) and Samuli Knupfer| (LBS), were victorious in winning the 4nations cup. This latest win continues the UK's success as undefeated champions.

Systemic Risk Centre public debate|
On Monday 11 March 2013 the new ESRC-funded Systemic Risk Centre sponsored a public debate on whether the post crisis reforms of financial regulations will be effective in protecting us from financial excesses, or may perversely destabilise the financial system. As of February 2013 the Abraaj Capital Private Equity Research Programme is renamed the Abraaj Group research initiative. In its new form it sits as a research stem within the Corporate Finance and Governance Research Programme

Second successful year for LSE academics at the American Finance Association Awards
Members of the FMG have enjoyed success at the awards ceremony, held in San Diego CA on 4-6 January 2013. Vicente Cuñat| (Department of Finance, LSE), has been awarded the Brattle Group Distinguished Paper prize. While, Stavros Panageas| (Department of Finance, LSE) scooped the Smith Breeden prize.

The Systemic Risk Centre launches at LSE|
16 January 2013
The Economic and Social  Research Council (ESRC) has today announced that a £5 million research centre, which will study the risks that could trigger the next financial crisis, is being launched at LSE. The Systemic Risk Centre, co-directed by Drs Jean-Pierre Zigrand and Jon Danielsson, is part of the Financial Markets Group collaborating on research, events and publications.
