Programme Overview

The programme is taught two evenings per week over two academic years (21 months). There are also optional Saturday sessions that go over material that is covered in the lectures, as well as revision lectures at the end of each term.

Year 1

The foundation of the programme is built in the first year with study of two core courses: Corporate Finance and Asset Markets. Examinations are held at the end of the year during the summer term.

Corporate Finance begins with the firm's investment decision and the cost of capital. This is linked to the firm's financial structure and market environment where the firm operates. The course studies in detail major financial decisions including dividend choice, going public, mergers and acquisitions, and restructuring in financial distress.

Asset Markets aims to familiarise students with the workings of financial markets, and equip them with the fundamental tools of asset valuation. The course will focus on the three main asset classes - fixed income, stocks, and derivatives - through understanding theoretical concepts as well as up-to-date applications, giving a unified perspective of modern valuation methods.

Year 2

In the second year, students deepen their knowledge by taking four half-unit courses from a choice of six. Students also write a 6,000 word dissertation in the place of an exam in one of the four optional courses. Examinations are held at the end of the year during the summer term.

Students choose four half-unit options from the following list of courses:

Students also have the option of taking one of the following non-dedicated courses, taught in the daytime, during the second year (subject to availability):

Global Financial Systems and International Finance.
