Previous Degree: BSc in International Business Administration at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University.

Given the breadth of my undergraduate degree in general management, what I wanted was a more in-depth knowledge of finance. It was amongst my favourite subjects at RSM, and I felt that a specialized postgraduate degree would provide me with both a personal challenge as well as an edge in the job market. When it came to university applications, LSE clearly came on the top of my list. Its excellent reputation, strong corporate ties, highly regarded feedback from alumni and the well-rounded MSc Finance programme were amongst the main reasons for my choice. Moreover, I was eager to move to London, which has always excited me as arguably the most vibrant city in Europe from a career as well as social perspective.

I must say that one aspect that struck me most was the overall level of classmates. Due to the incredibly high number of applicants, people on the MSc Finance programme are extremely bright, driven and talented - it is a pleasure to work in such environment! It is an environment where you are constantly challenged, inspired and you can learn from each other on a regular basis. Moreover, it has also been great fun and I've met people that I am proud to call my friends!

What are you doing now?

Following graduation from LSE, I joined the London office of Bain & Company which was a very rewarding experience. I learned a ton by working on projects in various industries across Europe, USA, Middle East and Australia. After 2.5 great years at the firm, I decided it was time to pursue my interest in private equity which came to reality after joining the European investment team of Bain Capital. I’m really enjoying the impact, challenges and dynamics of investing - it’s been a great experience.

LSE certainly played a key part in this journey. The School’s brand name, which stands for the highest quality of education and commercial awareness, rightfully goes a long way in employers’ minds. Moreover, it is harder to secure your dream job in London from a non-UK university.

While it has been nearly 5 years since graduation (already!), I’ve kept in close touch with some of my classmates. Not only do we try to catch up during the regular networking drinks, but quite a few faces were also present at my wedding this summer!
