MSc European Studies: Ideas, Ideologies and Identities

About the programme

The MSc European Studies: Ideas, Ideologies and Identities programme (formerly MSc European Identities) provides a theoretically and historically grounded, multi-disciplinary analysis of Europe as a cultural, political and social space. It is led by teachers of academic distinction with experience of policy-making in Europe.

During the programme students will explore:

  • the meaning and limits of Europe
  • the relationship between civil society and the European state
  • the cosmopolitical horizon of European union
  • Islam in Europe
  • Eurocentrism and Orientalism
  • European citizenship and identity
  • the cultural and policy implications of national and ethnic diversity and migration

Attracting students from both the humanities and the social sciences, this degree gives students the opportunity to explore a range of different methodological and theoretical approaches to Europe today.
