  • Professor  Kostas Lavdas 
    National Bank of Greece Senior Research Fellow (Mar - Aug 2009)
    Kostas Lavdas is Professor of Political Science and Director of Crete Centre for Political Research & Documentation (KEPET), University of Crete, Greece. He is also the Constantine Karamanlis Chair in Hellenic and Southeast European Studies, The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, USA. Professor Lavdas research proposal was 'Political Ideologies and Europeanization in Explanations of Public Policy Instrumentation: Greece in Comparative Perspective'. This was a proposal for a research agenda that will expand and complement research undertaken recently by Professor Lavdas.  The main question addressed was: 'What is the relative impact of Europeanization and of political ideologies in the instrumentation of public policy?

  • Dr Kostas Ifantis 
    Institute of Defence Analysis Senior Research Fellow (Mar - Aug 2009)
    Dr Ifantis is Associate Professor of International Relations, Department of Political Science and Public Administration, at the University of Athens. Dr Ifantis Research proposal was 'The Amelioration of the Greek-Turkish Security Dilemma in the Context of Turkey's EU perspective and EU-NATO relations. The proposal addressed three dimensions of current international and regional security concern: the prospect of stability (or instability) in South Eastern Europe and Eastern Mediterranean; secondly the prospect of Turkey's European vocation: and thirdly, the cohesion and durability of transatlantic security architecture. The common focus is the relations between Turkey and Greece.

  • Dr Rebekka Christopoulou
    Ministry of National Economy Research Fellow (Sep 2008 - Aug 2009)
    The research project that she carried out at the Hellenic Observatory examined Greece's pay structure. Dr. Christopoulou completed her undergraduate studies in Economics at the University of Crete, and subsequently received an MSc in economics from the University of York and a PhD in (labour) economics from the University of Cambridge. Before joining the Hellenic Observatory, she worked at the Research Directorate of the European Central Bank. Her research interests are in the areas of labour economics, applied econometrics and economics of education.

  • Dr James Ker-Lindsay
    Institute of Defence Analysis Senior Research Fellow.
    James Ker-Lindsay worked on issues relating to Greek-Turkish relations, the Cyprus issue and the Europeanisation of conflict management in South East Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean. Formerly the co-ordinator of the Greek-Turkish Forum at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies (RUSI), he is also the co-editor of The Cyprus Review and co-convenor of the British International Studies Association (BISA) Working Group on South East Europe. His main publications include, EU Accession and UN Peacemaking in Cyprus (Palgrave Macmillan, 2005), Crisis and Conciliation: A Year of Rapprochement between Greece and Turkey (I.B. Tauris, 2007), The Government and Politics of Cyprus (Peter Lang, 2008, co-edited with Hubert Faustmann), and, Kosovo: The Path to Contested Statehood in the Balkans (I.B. Tauris, 2009).   • Dr Diana Bozhilova
    A.C. Laskaridis Post-Doctoral Research Fellow (Sep 2008 - Aug 2009) 
    She worked on the theme of Energy Co-Operation in South-East Europe with a particular focus on Greece. The project looked into primary energy resources supply to Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey, the level of co-operation in this field between the states of South-East Europe, and their efforts to diversify primary energy supply through transnational networks amounting to a form of regional co-operation. Previous research conducted by Diana Bozhilova has included: 'Trade Relations between the People's Republic of Bulgaria and the German Democratic Republic in the last five-year plan' (at the Humboldt University-Berlin), as well as 'The Europeanization of Judicial Reform and Industrial Restructuring in Central and Eastern Europe: the case of Bulgaria' (at King's College London). She has published in the policies of judicial reform in the European Journal of Law Reform and in the Journal of Common Market Studies. Her research interests include the EU enlargement policy, public procurement policy, and industrial policy, as well as energy co-operation in SEE.

  • Professor Nicos Christodoulakis
    National Bank of Greece Senior Research Fellow (Sep 2008 - Feb 2009)
    His research focuses on the Euro-area asymmetries and the challenges for Southern European countries. His project in HO dealt with the convergence and divergence issues within the Euro-area; in particular, how the Single Currency is affecting the convergence process in the countries of the European South and what policies and reforms are appropriate for containing their explosive Current Account Deficits. Nicos Christodoulakis is a Professor in the Department of International and European Economics, Athens University of Economics and Business whereas formerly he was Minister of National Economy, Minister for Development and Deputy Minister of Finance in Greece.

  • Dr Fragkiskos Filippaios
    Ministry of Economy and Finance Senior Research Fellow (2007-8)

  • Dr Konstantinos Tzioumis
    National Bank of Greece Senior Research Fellow (2008)
    He did research on "Equity Markets: Greece and the EU". He has worked at the LSE's Centre for Economic Performance and the World Bank's Financial Sector Vice-Presidency. Currently, Konstantinos works as a Financial Economist in the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (US Dept. of the Treasury) Risk Analysis Division.

  • Dr Effie Fokas
    A.C. Laskaridis Post-doctoral Fellow (Sep 2007 - Aug 2008)
    She did research on "Religious minorities and changing identities in Greece". She is now a Visiting Research Fellow in the European Institute.

  • Dr Konstantina Maragkou
    A.G. Leventis Foundation Post-doctoral Fellow (2007-8)
    She worked on the revision, expansion and publication of her doctoral dissertation on Britain and the Greek Colonels, 1967-1974. Konstantina is now a Visiting Lecturer in History & Post-doctoral associate of the Hellenic Studies Program Yale University. For further details please click here

  • Dr Yiannis Psycharis
    National Bank of Greece Senior Research Fellow (2007-8)
    He did research on "Regional Allocation of Public Investment in Greece". He is an Assistant Professor in Regional Economics at the Department of Planning and Regional Development, University of Thessaly, Volos Greece. He is also the Deputy Director of the Department's Post-graduate Program and Secretary of the Greek Section of the European Regional Science Association. 

  • Dr Eugenia Markova
    Ministry of Economy and Finance Senior Research Fellow (2006-7)

    He studied the relation between social capital and public policy outcomes in Greece. He was also involved in the EU-funded ADAPT project. He is now Senior Lecturer at the Department of Balkan, Slavic and Oriental Studies, University of Macedonia.
