Dr Dimitris Papadimitriou is an Associate of the Hellenic Observatory. He had previously joined the Hellenic Observatory/European Institute in September 2002 as a Research Fellow (2002-2003) and then as a Visiting Fellow (2003-2006). His research interests revolve around two main themes: contemporary Greek politics and the European Union's relations with Eastern Europe.
He has previously published on EMU and the reform of the Greek pension system and on the Greek strategy during the IGC on EMU in 1990-91.
More recently he has been working on the theme of Europeanisation and the effects of Greece's Eurozone membership on the process of domestic structural reform, particularly in the areas of pensions, labour markets and taxation.
On the EU's relations with Eastern Europe he has recently published Negotiating the New Europe (Ashgate, 2002). Previously he has written on the several aspects of the EU's external relations (D. Papadimitriou (2003), in Knodt M. and Princen S., Understanding the EU's External Relations, Routledge, London), the process of its eastwards enlargement (D. Papadimitriou, paper delivered to the European Consortium of Political Research (ECPR), Joint Sessions, Turin, 22-27 March 2002) and its relations with the Balkans (D. Papadimitriou (2001), Journal of South East European and Black Sea Studies, Vol. 1, No. 3, pp. 69-94).
