2009 HO Staff in the Press

December 2009

  • Professor Prevelakis wrote two articles in Estia on December 15th and December 29th 2009. 
  • Professor Featherstone in his regular column in the 'Kathimerini' argued that 'Armageddon' might have to be the solution to Greece's economic crisis, if a national pact is unattainable. The alarm as to the condition of the Greek economy seems stronger abroad than at home (link).

 

November 2009

  • Professor Prevelakis in his most recent article in Estia criticizes the choice of the EU president and suggests an alternative person for the new top EU post. 
  • Professor Featherstone asked in his regular column for the 'Kathimerini' newspaper (Athens) on Sunday 'Is Blair the right man for EU President?' (link). 
  • Professor Prevelakis in his most recent article in Estia writes on the diverging views of different European countries regarding European integration. 
  • Professor Prevelakis in his most recent article in Kathimerini writes on the ideology of the European centre-right and New Democracy. 
  • Professor Featherstone in his latest Kathimerini article entitled 'Thinking Left, but Voting Right?' argues that voters across Europe appear more committed to centre-left values than might be evident from the recent success of centre-right parties (link).

  • Dr Spyros Economides comments on EU's foreign policy in Telegraph. According to Dr Economides "the EU has no central focal point of national interest, which the member states have, that defines their foreign policy [...] the member states have adopted a pragmatic approach: when we can agree, we shall agree, and when we can't, then so be it." May 2009

  • Professor Kevin Featherstone, Director  of the LSE's Hellenic Observatory, in his regular column for the 'Kathimerini' wrote on 31st May 2009 on the contrasting responses to political corruption scandals in the UK and Greece. 'Nothing', he wrote, 'appears to stir the revolutionary spirit of the British more than the misuse of taxpayers' money to buy horse manure and two toilet seats in the same year'. The reform agenda has opened-up in remarkable ways and Greece might take note (link)
  • The HO's Director, Professor Kevin Featherstone in his regular column for 'Kathimerini', previews the upcoming elections for the European Parliament and argues that we have too many 'Europes' - in the sense that competing and widely diverging national conceptions of what 'Europe' is and should be prevent unity (link). 

 

April 2009

  • The HO's IAA Defence Analysis Institute Senior Research Fellow Dr. James Ker-Lindsay gave two interviews (one in Voice of America and another in The National) concerning the Turkish Cypriot parliamentary elections in northern Cyprus. In addition, he was quoted in the Guardian about the recent ECJ decision on Greek-Cypriot property rights in northern Cyprus and in the Turkish London Gazette about the recent ACGTA seminar on the Europeanization of Turkey. 
  • The HO's Director, Professor Kevin Featherstone has written an article in the Kathimerini on the results of an international study regarding the OECD countries reform capacity organised by the German Bertelsmann Stiftung Institute, To read the article please click here
